road kill... it's fresh

the discussion today was over roadkill and being what A called "city-fied"
If I told you, that today, we picked up a pheasant from the side of the road, brought it home, cleaned it and ate it... what would you think???

we didn't.

for the obvious reason that I gag just on touching said Pheasant... it was beautiful. I just wanted to pluck out those beautiful feathers.

Here's how it happened.

We drove out to the kennels to see our furry children. I miss them, like a lot, so I like to go visit when I can to hang out and pet them and have A play with Cookie via laser light....

Nothing on the road... that is covered in snow....

On the way back their was a pheasant on the side of the road... back tail feather straight up in the air... it was  a beautiful bird when it was alive. So I say, I can do this, I want those feathers, it died without me killing it... I can get those feathers. A turned the car around and I jumped out into two feet of snow and trekked about 15 feet down a slope to the bird. The bird was shot! It was dead, obviously, and it took me about a minute to figure out that it was shot (pellet gun style) while flying past a house out onto the road... keep in mind, it's not pheasant season anymore and we were out in the boonies (which isn't hard to get to out here) so someone was going to come get it. Regardless, I went to pull the feathers out, and they were soooo soft and so warm.. which was really trippy cause it was FREEZING outside. but what was REALLY scary was that it wasn't hard yet, no rigor mortise had set it and those feathers weren't budging.... I flipped and could hear A laughing in the truck... and I ran back to the truck and squirted hand sanitizer all over my hands.

thus began the conversation, if we had done that would it be road kill or would it be freshly killed game??

I know I don't want to eat such a beautiful creature to begin with, but beyond that, I'm too "cityfied" to eat anything off the side of the road...

A is conflicted cause he would excuse it as freshly killed game....
